The Boost prepaid phone is capable of placing walkie-talkie style calls, and offers many of the same features as a Nextel phone.
As a bonus, all cell phone models come with $10 of free airtime minutes to start your service.
Boost Mobile offers two different calling plans to choose from.
Roaming and long distance are free on nationwide calls. All calls are charged in 60 second increments, and are rounded up to the nearest minute. Text messages are 10 cents to send, free to receive. Access to the World Wide Web is 20 cents a day.
While Nextel's iDEN network generally works well in areas where there is ample service coverage, you may be limited in your roaming ability. Because Nextel is the only major network to use the iDEN network, calls are sometimes difficult to hand off to other carriers when roaming. You can check to see if your calling location receives coverage by calling 1-888-BOOST-4U.
As a courtesy, Boost Mobile sends you a warning when your account balance reaches $5. If your account balance reaches $2.50, your walkie talkie feature and web access will be terminated. You may only make cellular calls. Once you replenish your account with more airtime, these additional services are automatically reinstated. You will need to recharge your account once every 90 days in order to keep receiving service. If you don't recharge your service within the time period, any airtime credits will be forfeited. You may also lose your walkie talkie number and cell phone number. Refill cards are available in $20, $30 and $50 denominations. You are not allowed to exceed $300 dollars worth of airtime in your account. For more information about the Boost prepaid cell phone, go to www.Boost Mobile.com
