The Benefits of Choosing a GSM network

Is there an advantage in choosing a GSM network over a CDMA network?

Both networks use basically the same frequency and provide much the same coverage here in America. But there are a few advantages that GSM networks have - and CDMA networks don't.

Here's a list of the benefits of you'll find using a GSM network:

  • GSM cell phones can be used when traveling to other countries: providing those countries also provide service using the same network. Other countries who use the GSM network include parts of Europe, Asia and Africa.
  • No roaming when placing calls to International GSM networks: You'll still be required a service toll fee when calling internationally. But because it's the same network, there's no roaming fee.
  • Certain phone models can be unlocked: The most popular brands being Nokia, and a few Motorola phones. Some phones simply require a code to access the unlocking feature. Others are more difficult.
  • There's more GSM cell phone models to choose from: Because GSM networks are used in other parts of the world, there's often a broader choice of cell phone models.
