It's also is one of the fastest growing companies in the wireless industry, second only to Verizon. What appeals to most T-Mobile wireless customers is the company's low priced cell phone plans - some of the lowest priced plans in the industry! And ranking well in two national wireless satisfaction surveys may help further heighten the company's appeal.
National survey and FCC ranking: Although Verizon received top ranking in the Consumer Report's study, T-Mobile ranked a close second. In the JD Power survey the carrier did even better, and ranked the highest in all six regions surveyed. Verizon managed to tie with the carrier in four of those regions. The carrier also received top honors in JD Power's latest survey which focused on the performance of each carrier's Customer Care. Oddly, the FCC report counterdicts these studies, finding the carrier second only to Cingular in complaints filed against a wireless company.
The Carrier's Weakness?: T-Mobile has one of the smallest coverage areas of all national carriers, partly because it's still "young" in comparison to other carriers. But, a more significant may lie in its choice of network. Unlike most wireless carriers, T-Mobile operates both GSM cell phones and service on a single PCS digital band. This means, in order to roam on another carrier's network, that carrier must not only use the GSM network, but also provide the PCS frequency. In order to expand its network coverage area, the carrier has secured roaming agreements with other GSM providers using PCS networks throughout the United States. If you're not sure if T-Mobile offers service in your area, the carrier offers a helpful coverage map. Another shortcoming? T-Mobile is one of only two US carriers that has not launched their Third Generation network (3G). Upgrading the network would allow T-Mobile users the ability to download Internet content and data at near broadband speed. U.S. Carriers that currently offer the enhanced 3G network are Cingular, Sprint and Verizon.
Service Incentives and Cell Phone Plans: The carrier provides nationwide and regional calling plans for both individuals and families. Service incentives for individual plans include:
